that’s right you’re not from texas…
October 29, 2008
Well, folks… the blog is back up and running. I have pictures and stories from our crazy trip across the country back in September, but am saving them for a later post. The big news is above: Cora Elaine Nelson made her way into the world last Wednesday night, and is seemingly perfect… she weighed in at exactly seven pounds, was almost 20 inches long, and only took seven hours or so get here after my water broke. She was born at the Newberg hospital, and I had two thoughts looking at her birth certificate earlier today: Wow, she’s really an Oregonian, and Holy Cow: I just broke a 7-generation string of Texas births. My cousin Lauren sent out birth announcements earlier this summer describing her son John as “an 8th generation Texan” and it occurs to me that Cora would be too. Except she’s not. Of all the things I could care about, I reckon only Texans understand why this is a little disappointing. Lyle Lovett gets it about right (and credit goes to Abraham Piper for reminding me of this song after looking at his blog a couple days ago…):
